Huh, this fic is magnificent. I love he interplay between Don, and Dean, and Don finally getting, or getting it enough, that he actually asked about the portal, even if he felt silly afterwords. I adore, that Sammy, and Don, and the cops approaching was what it took for them to leave, because Dean was not letting Best off the hook. See, Don didn't know it, but Dean made that mistake before with Gordon, and he almost lost Sam. He wasn't going to make it again. Gordon proved that jail cells don't necessarily hold Hunters.
I, too, would love a sequel. Don having to call Sam, and Dean because Charlie got grabbed by a creepie crawlie, and now Don is just experienced enough to read the signs. There is some wonderful symmetry here too. There isn't anything that Dean wouldn't do for Sam, and now we get to see just how far Don would go for Charlie. Being involved in a real Hunt, with a real Monster, and maybe meeting an angel, perhaps finding out about the averted apocalypse. Things that would finally set Don feet on the road of knowledge that he never wanted, but can't escape. Doesn't matter, because he will endure almost anything to save Charlie. Okay, I'll stop now, but I love throw out scenarios sometimes.
This story was tightly written, with no wasted space, wonderful characterization, and great plotting. I Love this fic, it had everything anyone could ask for, thank you. :D Crosses fingers for a sequel. -SB
